Fast planing, making passages at night and handling challanging sea states, are just some of the elements of the RYA Powerboat Advanced course. If you are ready to get trained for more challenging conditions, then this intensive two days course is exactly what you need. Participants at the Advanced course are a mix of experienced recreational and commercial powerboat skippers.
Course content
This course is the 'best in class' level training for powerboating. We will work with you on boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation up to the standards required to drive a planing powerboat safely by day and night in tidal coastal waters, with which the candidate may be familiar, in more demanding conditions.
Participating at this course requires already having build up some proper experience and solid knowledge. In order to get the most out of this course, we recommend anyone considering to participate the course to first complete the Intermediate Powerboat course.
This Advanced course is available as 2 consecutive days.

How to prepare yourself for this course
Your knowledge of navigation, chart work and regulations should be at the level of the RYA Yachtmaster/Coastal Skipper shorebased theory course to succesfully participate in this course and obtain the course certificate. In addition, it is recommended to hold a First aid certificate and a VHF/SRC operators licence.
In order to get the most out of your course, we offer you the possibility to do our online pre-course knowledge quiz. The quiz helps you to test your knowledge and to assess whether you need more preparation in some areas.
Ability after the course
You’ll have optimised your powerboat experience, ready and confident to plan and execute high speed coastal trips and close quarters manoeuvres by day and night.

We recommend attending the RYA Yachtmaster/Coastal Skipper shorebased theory course, the RYA First Aid and the RYA Radar operator course before following the Powerboat Advanced practical course.
Next steps
The RYA Powerboat Advanced Certificate of Competence can be commercially endorsed for anyone with ambition to find work as a professional crew member.
After successfully completing this course, and having build up some solid experience on powerboats, you might consider becoming an instructor yourself.
The instructor is very experienced and the powerboat is just great. This was worth every minute and every euro spent.
I strongly recommend this training centre to anyone considering doing a powerboat course.
