Experience is king. After learning the theoretical and practical skills, it is important for enthusiastic sailors to start putting some miles under their belt. The type of miles may however differ depending on the needs of our clients. For those sailors that need to build up experience with making a coastal passage, we have defined this offering.
This Experience Builder is aimed at beginning sailors. It is an enjoyable balanced mix of making miles, visiting harbours and at the same time learning to structure a passage plan, use pilotage, do calculations on height of tide, handling tidal currents along the coast.
Description of this experience builder:
This one-way experience builder adds a total of approximately 70 miles to your nautical experience, and has a duration of 4 days. We offer the following 2 routes:
27 to 30 March: Sailing in northerly direction from Nieuwpoort, along the Belgian coast, to the Oosterschelde estuary in Zeeland, with stops in various ports.
18 to 21 May: Sailing in southerly direction from Zeeland and the Oosterschelde estuary along the Belgian coast to Nieuwpoort.
Example of one of the routes The route will depart from our base in Nieuwpoort and set sail in a Northerly direction along the coast of Belgium. We will be experiencing the effects of tide, navigate through shallow sand bank areas and encounter shipping traffic. After staying a night at one of the Belgian coastal ports, we will pass the locks and enter the Oosterschelde. We will be sailing along the coast and on the estuary, navigating our way using buoys and other navigational markers. The final destination is Kats, centrally located on the Oosterschelde.
The miles on this experience builder will be mainly made during daytime, although a late (night-time) arrival is certainly possible.
We will teach you preparing and executing the passage, and work with you on your navigation and sailing skills.
This one-way experience builder is classified by us as suitable for 'beginners', and requires minimum sailing experience at the level of Competent Crew. It is an ideal experience builder if you are preparing yourself for Day Skipper, or if you need extra experience and training after having obtained your Competent Crew or Day Skipper certificate.
What do you get at the end:
Your miles and day/night sailing hours will be signed off in your personal logbook at the end of the experience builder.
What's included:
Your personal travel towards Nieuwpoort and back from Kats is not included in our offer.
